Godfrey Extra 300L
John Battershell

I finally got a little time in to scan a few pictures of the rudder pull
pull setup on my Godfrey 300L.

300L rudder horn .jpg (85215 bytes)

Picture of the Nelson Aircraft rudder horn that I designed and had Jerry
Nelson make up. It is two aluminum plates glued into the rudder so that
the control points are in line with the hinge line.

300L rudder horn 1.jpg (39110 bytes)

Bottom view of rudder shows horn. Notice the forward sweep to get the
control points to line up with the hinge line.

300L rudder horn 2.jpg (78106 bytes)

Another view shows a plate before it is glued into rudder. Two of the
plates were sandwiched around a 5/32" piece of plywood and then all were
epoxied into slot in rudder with slow set epoxy. A little space is left
on the leading edge which is simply filled with balsa and sanded flush.
All epoxy that oozes out is carefully wiped up with a balsa stick.
Notice the two eyelets that will be use for driving the tail wheel.

Another side view picture.

300L rudder bellcrank and servo 300dpi.jpg (58409 bytes)

This picture shows the rudder bellcrank which is also from Nelson
Aircraft. Driving it is a single Multiplex jumbo servo with a Darrol
Caddy pushrod. The bellcrank has dual BB and will take up all of the
pull loads. The cables will be attached to the horns with Nelson pull
pull hardware.
